Ice Breaker Questions and Answers

I thought it would be fun to do a little get to know me ice breaker questions and answers. I found some questions on the internet regarding vulnerability and thought why not try it. Obviously these questions will not give a complete overview of Sheri. However, they may help as a way to connect especially when you are meeting with someone new. I consider them as a way to break the ice.

Dine and Dash at a Restaurant?

  1. Have you ever Dine and Dashed at a Restaurant? I would have to say, no I have not. I started working in a seafood restaurant when I was 12yrs old. When I was in high school, I would go to work at 6am bussing tables at a breakfast nook and by 3 pm I would walk across the street and work in the seafood restaurant until 11pm. Understanding the hustle and bustle of cooking and feeding people, I did not feel it ever necessary to dine somewhere and then dash without paying for the service.

Marching band or Debate Team?

2. Would you rather have been in the Marching band or the Debate team in school? It is safe to say that I was in the band and on the debate team. I played the flute in 7th & 8th grade as part of the band. I was on the debate team in Jr. High and was on the Mock Trail Team in 9th and 10th grade.

Want to know how you are going to die?

3.If you could find out how you were going to die, would you want to know? I do not want to know, however I already have a feeling that I know how I am going to die. When I was little, I would have this dream that was buried alive in a wooden box. As I got older it became clear to me that I will die of suffocation. I still think about it now with the asthma and just wanting oxygen.

4.What was the last thing you stole or shoplifted. I guess you could say the last thing I stole was someone’s heart. Other than that, I am not into stealing and have never shop lifted. I have a habit of getting caught.

Vacation in Mexico or Alaska?

5. Would you rather vacation in Mexico or Alaska, and Why? I would love to visit Alaska, but I would prefer to vacation in Mexico. Their is something about the style and the feeling I get when it comes to Mexico. For instance, I have only been to Tijuana. When I was 18, I moved out to Arizona. This was 3 days after graduation to live with my dad, step mom and little brother. While I was out there, my homegirl was in California for a convention. Basically, I decided to take a bus to meet her in San Diego.

While we were there, we decided to venture to Tijuana. The first time we went, we went to a bar, got drunk and I rode a mechanical bull. I believe I also danced to AC/DC’s “Shook me all night long” on the dance floor by myself. We did not drink the water, so the only thing we drank was alcohol. The second time we went there (the next day basically), we went with a few friends from the military. From what I remember of the night, we went to a nightclub. I also remember making out with one of the guys we went with and then later he told me he was married. Fun times and good memories.

Like or Dislike Surprises?

6. Do you like or dislike surprises? I like surprises but they make me cry. I would prefer to know about the surprise so I can be prepared for it. I think surprises give me anxiety. That’s probably because I don’t have any control over it.

Ride a bike, a horse or drive a car?

7. Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse or drive a car? I would prefer to ride a bike. I have ridden a horse. I rode one at the Grand Canyon. My dad took me riding when he brought me to the Canyon for my very first visit. I can’t remember if I rode a horse when I was younger. The woman we lived with at one time in my life, worked at a stable and won a ton of ribbons for horse riding. I can’t remember if she took us riding or not. Her family owned a stable and that part of my life is a little blurred. Obviously I drive a car, but since I am prone to accidents, I prefer to ride a bike.

The tallest building you have been to the top in?

8. What’s the tallest building you have been to the top in? I would have to say the tallest building I have been in is the Empire State Building in New York City. I would visit New York City as a kid with my great aunts who lived there. They took us to the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and Broadway plays. I did go on a girls trip a few years ago and I wanted to go back up to the top, but we didn’t make it since we were partying too much. My girlfriends did however, take a picture of me in front of the entrance. My girls are funny, they knew I really wanted to go up to the top but we didn’t have time. We made a compromise hence, the picture of me at the bottom entrance.

I just continue to pack it in and packing it in. What in the world is Sheri talking about? Wouldn’t you like to know? I could possibly be having a conversation with myself. I mean no one out there thinks like me. Oops!! Was I being conceited? Apparently, there are so many things coming to my mind. Do I tell you? Should I share them with you? Hahahahah, that’s a good one! I’m evil laughing right now. I hope you can hear it.

Every day I think about what I need for work and what I could possibly venture to do after work. OMG, It’s a Big Mystery? What will Sheri do next? Well, at least I know what I need for work on the daily. Sometimes, I’ll add a few extra items into my Envision Dream Catch All Light Blue Tote Bag. Let’s see, I need two cell phones. My lipstick mini bag that holds my hand sanitizer and wipes in it. My smaller purse that includes another smaller money purse. Two cell phone chargers and a mini battery pack. Another mini bag with head wraps and face masks. Sometimes I remember to grab a bag of fruit and crackers for snacks. If you are reading this correctly, it seems as though I pack a lot. My goal is to pack the necessities and bring the basics for a great night of adventure. The adventure can be calm and boring or fast and exciting. It doesn’t matter to me. All that matters is that I am doing something I enjoy.

Do I add an additional bag ?

The answer is simple. Well, since we are in the hot summer season, I do pack another bag that I put into my main bag. Specifically, I pack my Envision Dream Draw String Bag and put that into my Envision Dream Catch All Tote Bag. For instance, this bag will include, an Envision Dream Beach Towel, Flip Flops, A Drink Cup, Drinks, my beach pass, a plastic bag for my garbage, and my Envision Dream Classic Vision White Sweatshirt in case it gets cool at night. Having my draw string bag makes it easy for carrying when I am walking to my spot on the beach or hiking in the woods. Basically, it allows me to have both of my hands free.

Am I being negative when I say I’m “not your cup of tea”? I thought this was an expression of how one feels toward something or someone. For instance, if I am “not your cup of tea”, what am I really saying? Do you think I am being mean or negative toward you? Furthermore, I am using it as an expression to let you know that I know who I am and who I am not.

A little sweetness to add to your cup of tea. I do not use fake sugars. For example, splenda or sweet-n-low packets. If I use sugar, I like to use the kind of sugar that ants would eat. Why is that? Well ants were put on this planet for a reason and a purpose just like you and me. Have you ever done a scientific experiment where you have one packet of artificial sugar on the counter in one end and real sugar on the other end? Let’s assume you have, and the results show that the ants will at least investigate the artificial sugar but ultimately gravitate toward the real sugar cane. This is just my observation and opinion I am writing about regarding some sweetness.

“Splish Splash” let me pour a little milk into your cup of tea. Yes, adding a splash of milk to your tea is a personal preference. I also may add that adding a spoonful of sugar, artificial or not to your cup of tea is also a personal preference. But, don’t let me stop you from adding a splash here and there. Perhaps you enjoy your tea on the darker side. Additionally, you could like it on the lighter side too. Ultimately, it really is your decision on how you take your tea.

Sip & Think about it

You read that right! I recommend you sip & think about that one for a minute or two. Perhaps you should sip & think for a minimum of five minutes to a half hour. I wonder what you will think about? Will you sip that tea on the darker side or on the lighter side with some milk and sugar?

If I come across a little too abrasive, that would be your perception. I am sharing my thoughts and sipping from my Envision Dream Sip and Think Black Mug. Black the symbolism of mystery and elegance. I would rather get my thoughts out there than let them sit and wallow. Sometimes you need to let the negativity go. Above all, try to stay positive. This too shall pass!! Again, this is for those who feel I am “not your cup of tea”.

Pin Curls and Grandma’s Head Wrap Solutions

When I was a young girl, my grandmother would sit in a rocking chair and have me sit on the floor Indian style in front of her.  Without a doubt, I knew she was going to pin curl my hair. In this scenario, I had very long thick native black hair and you can imagine how many hours that would take. Needless to say, grandma enjoyed pin curling my hair. She would sing, yodel and tell me stories of her childhood. After all the pins were in my head, she would then wrap a handkerchief or bandanna over my head to keep the pins from falling out. Even so, when I slept on the pullout couch in the living room, they did not fall out. 

My sisters and cousins and I spent most of our summers and weekends at grandma’s house.  Obviously, our parents were working daily.  For this reason, it’s like we looked after grandma and she looked after us.  Little did we know that those memories would last with each one of us forever.

As time went on, I stopped going to grandma’s house.  Clearly, you could say things changed in the family.  Besides, we got older and grandma got dementia. In short, no more family time and no more pin curls.  Thus, no more time with grandma. As I became a teenager, I started to play softball all year long. Additionally, this meant playing in the hot summer sun too.  In fact, I recall playing on three teams one summer and working full-time. Because of the summer heat, I started wearing bandannas to help keep my head cool. Specifically, I would dip them in water and than toss on my head.

After graduation, I headed out west to Arizona. Despite having a good home in Narragansett, RI with friends and family, I ventured out of the nest. Along with the need to try something different, I was able to spend time with my dad, step mom and my younger brother. Of course going from the ocean to the desert was not an easy adjustment.  I had much to learn about the world and my life. My dad lived in a trailer in the desert. Like for real, the desert. Every day I had to check for rattle snakes, scorpions and tarantulas. This was a place where I would need to wear something over my mouth during sand or dust storms. Yes, they did come thru where I was staying. There is no doubt that bandanna’s and head wraps started becoming apart of my outfits in the desert too.

When I became a mom, I needed to keep my hair up and out of the way of my children’s little fingers.  My most precious gems would either pull at my hoop earrings or my hair. Above all, having my hair in a head wrap made it easier for me to maneuver throughout mom hood. Obviously, cooking and cleaning in head wraps became a must. As a result, my hair was in a head wrap most of the time. I guess you could say it became a habit for me to wear them daily. If you don’t see me wearing one, you can know that I at least carry one on me at all times.

The first P to formulating my plan

The first P in formulating my plan is the plan

Have you ever had a plan but didn’t know you had a plan? Well what is a plan anyway? Specifically, the dictionary defines a plan as a detailed proposal of doing or achieving something. The next question I typically ask is what do I want to do or achieve? A logical question, I suppose. To me, I believe that you have to want to achieve something. Did you evaluate your current situation and say to yourself, their must be something better than what I’m doing or where I am at? Furthermore, we can look at this another way and say, I like where I am at but I feel that I could do better at what I am doing now. So what’s the first p in formulating my plan? Great questions!

Reflecting on a moment to help formulate my plan

Now that you have answered a few questions about your current situation, you can proceed to start brainstorming ideas. For instance, what do you have access to and what do you feel you are good at? The reason I ask the question this way is because sometimes the individual you are speaking to may not know that they have a talent or skill that they are good at. Like you may not realize a trait you have until someone points it out and tells you what they see in you. For example, someone told me I have a contagious smile. I know it’s not a skill or a talent or is it? I laugh and smile of course, but I don’t look too much into it when someone says that to me and I feel they are just being nice. It didn’t really click in my head until recently when I was reflecting on my past and it made me think of a friend of mine who passed away. Specifically, his mother came up to me and said that when she sees my smile, she remembers the good times with her son, she continued and told me “to never stop smiling”.

What is the moral of this story?

The moral of the story is that I could not see how my smile and demeanor could impact someone else. It actually made me feel good to help heal another human being who was grieving in such pain. I can’t even imagine losing a child and my heart broke for her. This event happened 25 years ago at her son’s funeral. The reality is that I never understood what she meant until just recently. As in illustration, I was standing in a very long line to pay my respects to my dear friend, her son who was laying in a casket. She left her post where she greeted everyone that came to hug her and she surpassed every single person in the line and walked straight over to me just to tell me what my smile meant to her. As a result of her action toward me, it made me think about how my smile touched her so deeply.

Reevaluating myself to help formulate my plan

I continued to reevaluate myself. I wondered, how could my smile help someone? Do I over analyze it? Do I accept it for what it is? If I could help one person with my contagious smile heal what else could I do to help another person? Is this part of the plan? I already established the fact that I felt good knowing that I helped someone else. So how else and what else could I do to help someone? I have envisioned a dream and I will take my skills, experience and knowledge to formulate a plan of action to help me achieve that vision.

The truth is, she is the one who made an impact on me. Crying as I write this blog because of my vivid memory of the event. Who knew, years later I would remember how she made me feel and what it meant to her to see me smile.

Overloaded with Laundry Daily

Ever feel as though the daily laundry is never ending? Who else feels overloaded with laundry daily? How many times have you come up with a system but no one in the house seems to either understand the system or follow the system?

Is Daily Laundry the Never Ending Story of having to get done?

Sometimes I feel like I need to have a washer and dryer for each member of the family. I contemplate if I should have a section for each person living in the house. Since my original daily laundry system is not working, I need to come up with another solution to the overloaded laundry system. Currently I am in the middle of starting my spring cleaning early. Similar to getting rid of clothes that are worn out and do not fit. I have bins of clothes that no one is wearing and they just sit in the bins.

Donating Laundry to Goodwill is something we always do

How about giving them to goodwill? Yes I do give a bag or two each month to Big Brothers Big Sisters. In addition to donations to goodwill, my husband will swing thru his hometown housing projects and give some of his clothes to family members who might need them. Simultaneously, my children will donate a few of their clothes to their younger siblings and nieces and nephews. Currently putting together the following for Next Month’s pick up.

Does getting rid of laundry mean we now have more space to purchase new clothing?

Well, it does feel good to clean up the house and it feels even better giving our clothes away to others who you know need them and will wear them. However, it also feels good going shopping for new clothes. Also, if you do not fit in your clothes anymore, it might be a good idea to purchase some clothes that fit you. I call this shopping therapy. The worst is when you are in between sizes. Which means you tend to keep the clothes that fit but are too big. How about the clothes you want to wear but they are a little bit snug? However you tend to hold onto them because you decided that you will one day fit back into them. Typical situation.

Do you see how just doing laundry daily is now turning into a full house cleaning and reorganizing project. First, you wanted to figure out a system for an easier way to get the laundry done, now you are in the process of getting rid of clothes and buying new clothes. Next, you start reorganizing your closet space. Specifically, you start trying on the clothes to see what fits and doesn’t fit. Now, you have clothes all over your bed. How does this fix the solution of overloaded laundry? The simplest answer is, it doesn’t.

What is on that girl’s mind for stabilization?

Well lets see, what is on that girl’s mind for stabilization at the moment? That is your question, right? Currently, this girl’s mind is feeling overwhelmed. Ya know, like when too much is on your plate. In other words, bogged down by responsibilities. At the same time trying to balance where she is and where she wants to go.

What are this girl’s responsibilities?

  • Keeping her basic needs in tact (Shelter, Food, Clothing)
  • Career responsibilities (Going to work and handling the duties she is paid to do)
  • Paying Bills (keeping up with monthly and yearly bills, paying off debt, building up my nest egg, retirement, investments)
  • Taking care of her Family and Home
  • Taking care of her own well-being (mind, body and soul)

What does this girl want in order to lessen her load?

Well, she wants to have stabilization within her life. Furthermore, she cannot feel balanced if she is lacking on her responsibilities. In addition, she cannot move up a step on the Maslow Hierarchy of needs if all of her basic needs are not met. Please understand that she has to focus on her survival at the moment. Will it get better? Yes of course it will. She is doing everything she possibly can to get herself to stabilization.

I have always said that you can be on top and in the blink of an eye you can hit rock bottom. This is why, I do not judge another person because the tables will always turn. Can she climb the ladder again, absolutely. When you are on the ground, the only way forward is to go up. Some decide to stay on the ground, but not this chick. She is motivated to do what she can to get done what is necessary.

Who can help this girl get to stabilization?

Unfortunately, the only person who can get her to stabilization is herself. She does have people that reach out to see if she is OK because they are worried about her. She appreciates that, really she does and it does not go unnoticed.

I’m one of those people that thinks, well if I got myself into this mess, than I am the one to get me out of this mess. My mother always told me that you can jump into a situation but it will take longer to get out of the situation. As long as I know that I am doing what I can and what is right than I will be OK with myself. It does not make it easy and yes at times I am feeling frustrated, angry, sad, overwhelmed and completely exhausted. Don’t fret, I have strength and will power to help me get thru it all. This too shall pass.

The Act of Forgiveness Is Hard To Do

Well, I think the act of forgiveness is hard to do because it means having to deal with the pain and hurt that was caused by someone or something that was out of our control.

In this big world of ours, we cannot control another human being. We can’t control how they feel about us or what they think about us. The only thing we can control is ourselves and how we react to unpleasant situations. Our emotions have so many levels to them. I do feel at times that I am unable to control even my emotions. I mean sometimes we act based on our emotions and at other times we act based on logic.

Balancing our heart and mind

Balancing the mind and the heart at the same time can be tricky. I can assure you that I have not mastered this technique. Sometimes, I am only thinking with my head. On the other hand, at times I am only thinking with my heart. When I use my mind I can control my emotions, but when it is my heart, forget it. I really have no control over my emotions when it comes to the heart. I just follow my feelings. Right or wrong.

Imperfections make us unique

You talk about forgiving you for your imperfections. Why? Your imperfections are a part of who you are. Furthermore, imperfections are what make you unique. Again, no one is perfect. So with that, I am trying to understand where all of this is coming from and why the sudden change of heart? I know it takes time for someone to accept their faults, but let’s understand that I also have flaws and faults. I am not perfect, but I am perfectly perfect in an imperfect way. It’s called being human.

Understanding why forgiveness is important

Again, you continue to ask me to forgive you. I do not understand why? Forgiveness is just as much for you as it is for the other person asking for it. You need to forgive yourself for all the transgressions you have done. This is all part of life and learning and growing. Ya know, a mother doesn’t stop loving her son because he chose to do certain things different than the way she would have done them. In fact, the way I see it is that we need to embrace the opportunities that we were given and accept things just the way they happened. Recently I took a walk at The King’s Preserve located in Saunderstown, RI. This is a 3 mile walk/hike minimum thru nature. You can go around and around depending on the direction and trail you take. It was a beautiful day and I really enjoyed getting out into the fresh air.

Finding yourself in The King’s Preserve?

While walking thru the hood of the woods or as some might say the enchanted forest, I used this opportunity to clear my mind. For instance, I did this by thinking and talking about different things going on in my life. Specifically, I really looked deep into who I am and who I have been as a person. In conclusion, I have realized that Sheri the individual has been weighed down by so many obstacles, pain and negative energy. When I looked deep within myself, I could see and feel the beautiful person that I have always been and wanted to be. Furthermore, I believe my outer shell has been so thick due to all the responsibilities I carry alone. Basically, I use my outer shell to shield me from all the crap I face in reality.

Obstacles keep crossing our paths in The King’s Preserve

Of course there were obstacles along the trail. In life we have obstacles. The question is what do we do when we come to an obstacle? Do we stop and turn back? Do we figure out a way to get through these obstacles? What ways can we move forward if an obstacle or obstacles are in our way. We will have to look at each obstacle one at a time. We have to agree that we are committed to following our path. As above so below. Since we do not choose to go under or can’t fit under the obstacle we can go around the obstacle or above the obstacle.

How do we go above the obstacle? One way is thru our Faith. Where there is hope there is faith. I feel we are guided in one way or another. Why is that? Maybe we are to continue practicing on each other so that we can show others how to get thru obstacles. I don’t know, what do you think? There is no right or wrong answer, I agree to that one. We are stuck to each other so we need to figure out how to be or get along together. Do you feel the good outweighs the bad? or is it that the bad outweighs the good?

Balancing act in The King’s Preserve

Climbing over rocks or broken tree limbs require some kind of balancing act. In fact, not every day is going to be bright and sunny. Moreover, not everyday is going to be perfect. We have to be committed to being able to withstand the downfalls. Kinda like the song “Can you stand the rain” by one of my favorite groups New Edition. Maybe the answer to finding balance means that it must come with compromise. Specifically, I am not an expert at balancing. For instance, my scale either dips all the way to the bad or all the way to the good. Consequently, I mean just being able to balance work and family life is a struggle all in itself. Then in conclusion, maybe part of my journey is finding balance.

Finding unconditional love in The King’s Preserve

What I really found going deep within The King’s Preserve is unconditional love. Becoming one with myself and loving it too. Looking at the path I was on, the directions I was taking, the balancing acts I had to do climbing over things and the fresh air to help me clear my mind. It was like I took all the weight off my shoulders and just focused on me. I was happy and carefree for that moment in time. Actually the happy and carefree feeling lasted all day and night. I even slept like a baby. I do believe my guides were with me too.

Obstacles to help you find your way

Yes, I saw some stone walls along the way, but they did not stop me. I had to walk thru the muddy waters and even got stuck a few times. Crossed over some bridges and ripped my way through the prickers. Made it to a large body of water at the bottom of the kingdom. Got lost in the woods and just had so many laughs. All and All it was a great experience, I am humbled to have been able to explore and discover nature’s wonders. The best part is being able to share it with you.

Are You Talking To A Stone Wall?

Ever feel as though you are talking to a stone wall? I can tell you or yell at you until I am blue in the face. This is what is means to talk to a wall. The person you are trying to speak to is not listening to you because for one they are mad, two they may feel hurt and three they have most likely put up their defenses. I wonder why?

Keep Arguing with a wall

For starters, we can continue to keep arguing so that we both can talk to a wall. I’ll yell my point with no indication of listening to what you have to say. Then you can yell at me to get your point across knowing that I too have my wall up. It’s like it goes in one ear and out the other.

The best is when we are both yelling at each other at the same time. As you can see, we get so much done doing it this way. It makes so much sense to lose so much time and energy yelling at each other’s walls. Doesn’t it? I feel so good inside because I was able to turn blue in the face and now I’m so tired, I think I’m going to go cry myself to sleep. Do you honestly think this is the best way to handle a disagreement?

Continuing to feel hurt because of a stone wall

Since we decided it was best to lose our tempers, lets continue to yell at each other all the annoying things we feel and see about one another. You can start by screaming obscenities out of your mouth and I’ll scream back at the same time. This is the most sensible way to get it out. Do you agree? It just turns me on when a man puts me down. I really enjoy the parts of the argument when I am used as a human body bag. Some may look at that as insane, but come on people this is reality. This kind of stuff happens all the time. You just might not know about it. Not everyone talks about this kind of stuff. The question is, why do we feel we deserve to treat each other in this manner?

Since we have been arguing to prove a point, we mine as well go into fight or flight mode. Why not just shut down? Their are so many reasons to why a person would go into fight or flight mode. It could be because of past hurts that were never fully healed. The argument could trigger past traumas that were never truly dealt with.

Are we set in our ways to keep a stone wall up?

Do you believe that part of the reasons we argue at stone walls is because we are set in our ways? I am a very stubborn individual. I was always told that being stubborn or set in my ways can be a good thing and a bad thing. As I got older, I learned how and when to be stubborn. For this reason, my mother always knew that I could not be peer pressured into doing something I didn’t want to do. If I did something, it was because I as an individual chose to do it. Which means that I understood the consequences of my actions. Does this mean I am selfish?

As a parent any decision I make affects not just me but those around me too. Everything is all fun and games until someone gets hurt. When do we know when we have gone too far? It’s like when you have two siblings growing up close in age and they start off joking around until one gets hurt and then boom the wall goes up.
