Introduction to My Business Journey Journal Curious Entrepreneur Magic

In order for there to be an introduction to my business journey journal curious entrepreneur magic, I needed a business and more importantly I needed a business idea.  Next, the magic I chose to use for this idea came from a huge mound of dirt. Similar to the mountain of elevation in our Envision Dream design. For instance, this mound of dirt is symbolizing a business idea and how an entrepreneur will use their creative mind to make a profit off selling the dirt. On the other hand, they are taking on all of the risks of losing the dirt and their own money. Basically, balancing the risk of making money and losing money is what an individual must weigh out. This is also true with time. Specifically, time spent and time gained.

Curiosity is what get’s you to research and visualize an opportunity for greatness. However, you will need to understand the 4 types , 7 characteristics and 3 skills needed to be a successful entrepreneur. The magic happens when you decide to take that plunge and go for it. Watch our full video below on Introduction to My Business for more insight.

What is a business idea?

To have a business, I needed to have a business idea. For instance, Envision Dream became the idea I had in my head. Indeed, this was the starting point for my entrepreneurship. To be more specific, a business idea is a starting point for any current or future entrepreneurs. Furthermore, it is essential because it is the beginning of a new life. Above all, this is a lifestyle change because it is the life of your business and the life of your entrepreneurship.

What is an entrepreneur?

Now that I have a business idea, I have decided to start a new lifestyle with entrepreneurship. Specifically, I turned Envision Dream into a Limited Liability Company. Clearly, an entrepreneur is an individual who creates a new business, bearing most of the risks and enjoying most of the rewards. Ultimately, entrepreneurs who prove to be successful in taking on the risks of a startup are rewarded with profits, and continued growth opportunities

4 Types of Entrepreneurs

What Are the 4 Types of Entrepreneurship? Anyone interested in starting and running their own business should consider which entrepreneurial model they prefer:

  1. small business
  2. scalable startup
  3. large company
  4. social entrepreneurship

7 Characteristics of Successful Entrepreneurs

  1. Self-Motivation is one of the most important traits of entrepreneurs- you are your biggest critic.
  2. Understand What You Offer. You need to know what you offer, and how it fits into the market.
  3. Take Risks: Weigh out the pros and cons for taking the risks
  4. Know How to Network– connect with like minded people
  5. Basic Money Management Skills and Knowledge
  6. Flexibility-when you are flexible, you bend verses brake
  7. Passion– Your passion will push you to keep going even with the toughest of times.

3 Important Skills of a Successful Entrepreneur

  1. Adaptability
  2. Persistence
  3. Hard Work

Yes, adaptability, persistence and hard work are the 3 keys to success in a small business. However, they are also three important skills no matter what your endeavor is. First, we need to be able to adapt thru changes. Remember the tide changes every day. Specifically, low and high tides. Second, we need to be diligently persistent so that we are able to be comfortable with hearing the word “no”. Specifically, you will receive 5 “no’s” before you receive a “yes”. This is why persistence is important. Third, nothing is gained without hard work. It should be noted that nothing is gained and nothing is lost unless, you are willing to push yourself with sweat and tears kind of hard work.

Accomplishments in 2020 with My Business Journey

I said to myself, in order to showcase your accomplishments Sheri, you need to start somewhere!!  And since we are ending the year 2020, I had decided to start reflecting on the accomplishments in 2020 with My Business Journey. Specifically, I compared this year verses last year in 2019. I thought, hey, it’s a great way to analyze all that I have completed and not completed. Furthermore, it helps me plan for the objectives I would like to achieve in order to grow.  My goal with reflecting is to take this information and see what I can improve upon for the upcoming year.

What is the meaning of accomplishment?

How do I know what my accomplishments in 2020 are with my business journey if I don’t know first what the word accomplishment means? I decided to look up the word accomplishment from the online dictionary. It says that an accomplishment is something that has been achieved successfully. It also says that it is the successful achievement of a task or planned objectives. Next, it says that an accomplishment is an activity that a person can do well, typically as a result of study or practice.

Sip N Think with Sheri
A Recent Accomplishment Achieved with the formation of Sip N Think with Sheri Live Chat Discussions on Instagram.

What are some examples of personal accomplishments?

As I continued to research the meaning of accomplishments, I learned that some examples of personal achievements can include charitable work, entrepreneurial success, establishing good health, financial stability and obtaining a college degree. Again, these are just examples to help you recognized your own personal achievements as we move forward into 2021.

How can you showcase your accomplishments best?

You can best show your accomplishments in 4 ways. In the video below, I actually tried to apply and showcase my accomplishments by mapping it out, pointing to the goals, keeping it simple and showing room for growth. The key word here is apply. Take what you have accomplished in the past year or years and apply the knowledge and lessons you have learned as you move forward into the upcoming year and future.

  1. Map it out.
  2. Point to goals.
  3. Keep it simple.
  4. Show room for growth.

Reflecting on the year 2020

Recently on Sheri’s Dream Catcher’s Instagram Sip N Think Live Chat held on December 30th, 2020, our topic of discussion was reflecting on the year 2020. First we looked at our comfort zone, where the magic happens and the space between the two. Next we looked at the meaning of 2020. Specifically, is it 2020 vision or in other words equal vision? What do you think?

Reflections on the year 2020
Envision Dream Reflections Back Pack

Here is a list of 2020 reflections discussed on our Sip N Think Chat

  1. Australia Wild Fires that burned a record 47 acres killing more than a billion animals.
  2. NBA Legend Koby Bryant and his 13 old daughter Gianna and seven others were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
  3. Harvey Weinstein was convicted of rape and sexual assault in New York destroying his career and gave rise to the #metoo movement.
  4. Global Pandemic where the whole world went on house arrest, toilet paper was raided from all the shelves, people we love dying, the economy went to shit, etc.
  5. George Floyd was brutally killed by a police officer which ignited riots and protests around the world bringing the racism and police brutality to light even more than ever before in history.
  6. Murder Hornets were discovered flying around us in the state of Washington
  7. Desert Locusts, the worlds most devastating pests were swarming in large numbers in Kenya, Ethiopia, Uganda, Somalia, Eritrea, India, Pakistan, Iran, Yemen, Oman and Saudi Arabia.
  8. Presidential Election 2020: Trump vs. Biden or was it Blue vs. Red?
  9. Wild Weather where in 141 years of climate records, we only had 3 states-Alaska, Hawaii and North Dakota-that weren’t apart of the billion-dollar weather disaster. Record Breaking 30 named storms during the Hurricane Season where meteorologists had to use letters from the Greek Alphabet to identify storms because they were running out of prepared names.
  10. The Great Conjunction between 2 planets: Jupitar and Saturn. They say this great phenomena, Bethlehem Star or Christmas Star happened for the first time in 800 years. So on December 21, 2020 about 45 minutes after sunset, Jupitar and Saturn appeared just one-tenth of a degree apart, according to NASA.

The Grinch Who Broke Down In Frozen Shoes

The Grinch Who Broke Down in Frozen Shoes
Momma Grinch

6:30 Dinner with Me. I can’t cancel that again.

The Grinch from How The Grinch Stole Christmas

Recently on Sheri’s Dream Catcher’s Instagram Sip N Think Live Chat held on December 19, 2020, our topic of discussion was about Sheri becoming the Grinch who was trying to put herself in someone else’s shoes. Additionally, I wanted to let you learn a little something about me and how my blended family works together and doesn’t when shit happens. For this episode, my son was driving my truck with his two brothers and it started to shut off while he was driving. Luckily, he was able to park it at Walmart when it shut off completely.

This also happened the day after a major snow storm in the RI area. As in illustration, it was 4:30pm and the sun had just gone down. The temperature was only 21 degrees out and their was ice and snow all over the roads. My emotions were triggered and all over the place. I was calm on the outside, but my insides were swirling like a tornado. Blood pressure was rising to beyond functioning level. I was thinking about my son, his brothers and my daughter. Additionally, I was thinking about my broken down truck and how I was going to get it home and how much money it was going to cost to get fixed. I won’t lie, I was also thinking about myself and how cold and tired I was and all I wanted to do was go home.

External Factors affecting the Grinch’s Heart in 2020

Since Covid cases have risen drastically in RI and the fact that I work in the health field, you can only imagine the stress my body and mental was already under. I have been trying really hard to maintain a good mental and emotional balance just from work , bills, and Covid impacts alone. Yes, these are all external factors and with these complications, my family and loved ones are the ones affected by it most of all. I am a firm believer in the fact that if God brought you to it, he will get you thru it. As a result, I do what I must given the duties and responsibilities laid upon me. This is what a MOM does. This is what a Leader does. This is what Love does.

WE TYPICALLY SIP & THINK WITH OUR SIP & THINK MUG FOR OUR LIVE DISCUSSIONS

The Envision Dream design represents your own personal journey when pieced together.  The Rainbow Heart is placed behind the Journey.

The heart represents your own heart. Your heart is a delicate part of you but also a strong piece of you (the individual). When you put your heart into something, it makes it that much more personal to you.  This is important for when you come to an obstacle or road block in your path.  Their will be times that are hard and complicated.  As well as unexpected events along the journey. When this happens, you will need to look into your heart.

Coincidently, The Grinch’s heart grew when he realized what the true meaning of Christmas was. He needed to look into his heart to figure out what really matters the most. When my son called me to say “mom, I know you are going to be mad because the truck is not clean”, my reply was “all that matters is that you are ok”. Material things can always be replaced but you my son, cannot.

Puzzling Mind Preparing for the Snow to Plummet

Make Sure You Have Your Bag Packed Incase You Get Stuck in the Storm

Apparently, I cannot get my mind to think straight with all of this snow talk. Really, your puzzling mind is preparing for the snow to plummet? How much snow will we get? Let me watch the weather forecast like a crack head craving for my next hit. Please do not take offense to that analogy. But seriously, we only focus on the weather channel like a hawk when we hear of a storm coming. Ultimately, I guess it makes our lives interesting.

Yes, I am still puzzled by why we only need milk, eggs and bread when their is a snow storm. Furthermore, why do we as humans race to the grocery store to buy up all of the milk, eggs and bread on the shelves just as the snow starts to plummet? Inquiring minds really do want to know how and why this is considered getting prepared for a snow storm.

What you did to prepare for the storm will determine how fast you recover from the storm.

Recently on Sheri’s Dream Catcher’s Instagram Sip N Think Live Chat held on December 15, 2020, our topic of discussion was about the upcoming snow storm heading it’s way for RI mixed in with other puzzling thoughts.

Olaf from Disney

This year especially, has me thinking and reflecting on the years past. December is typically the month of reflection. However, I feel as though I am reflecting even more now than I ever did. For instance, I am looking at old pictures and all the meaning behind them. In addition to old pictures, I am listening to traditional Christmas songs play over and over again. Literally, I’m thinking like, these songs need to be upgraded. On the other hand, I really do like classic and traditional songs too. Apparently, my mind is still puzzling me as the snow begins to plummet. Ahh the Memories!! That’s it, we have fond memories. Both good and bad memories.

Following the Rainbow Flag

Recently on Sheri’s Dream Catcher’s Instagram Sip N Think Live Chat held on November 20th, 2020, our topic of discussion was Young, Gay and Disabled. For this online live chat we invited our personal friend and Special Guest Timmy Tatro-Bonin who is living a young, gay and disabled life. When following the Rainbow Flag, we understand that everyone has a different point of view and experiences things differently, however, as our guest we wanted to get his perspective of his own personal experiences.

WE TYPICALLY SIP & THINK WITH OUR SIP & THINK MUG FOR OUR LIVE DISCUSSIONS

Following the Rainbow

Envision Dream Sip & Think Red Rainbow Cup: Since red is the color of blood, it has historically been associated with sacrifice, danger, and courage. It is most commonly associated with heat, activity, passion, sexuality, anger, love, and joy.

A Rainbow Symbolizes What?

A rainbow is sometimes associated as a symbol of faith and hope. In addition, it is also a symbol for an ongoing desire for peace. The rainbow is also sometimes used to symbolize moments and movements of social change. For example, the Rainbow Flag designed for the Gay Community in 1978 by the American Artist Gilbert Baker.

Learning something I never knew, I never knew

For each of our Live Chats, I like to learn something I never knew before. For instance, we learned a little bit about the Stonewall Riots of 1969. Also known as the Stonewall uprising. This rebellion took place on June 28, 1969 at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village in Manhattan, NY. As a result of these riots, a movement for social change started with the LGBTQ community. Since the Stonewall riots happened, the month of June has been recognized as Pride Month.

Following the rainbow flag
Envision Dream Versatile Pride Head Wrap

How did the Rainbow Flag Come into Existence?

We learned that an openly gay man and drag queen by the name of Gilbert Baker designed the first Rainbow Flag in 1978. Since Baker was an American Artist, he was urged by one of the first openly gay elected officials in the U.S. Harvey Milk to create a symbol of pride for the gay community. Baker chose the flag as a symbol because he saw them as the most powerful symbol of pride at that time. Baker looked at the rainbow as a natural flag gifted from the sky. He knew deep down that he could not use dark and painful experiences as an option for his creation. So he chose to use the rainbow for his inspiration.

Colors of the Rainbow Flag

Since the LGBTQ community is made up of people who come in all races, ages and genders, Baker felt the rainbow’s natural and beautiful nature would fit the community perfectly. Ultimately the different colors within the Rainbow Flag are meant to represent togetherness. Baker first adopted eight colors for the stripes in his Rainbow Flag design with each color having its own meaning.

  • Hot Pink for Sex
  • Red for Life
  • Orange for Healing
  • Yellow for Sunlight
  • Green for Nature
  • Turquoise for Art
  • Indigo for Harmony
  • Violet for Spirit
Following the rainbow flag
Envision Dream Rainbow Yoga Capri

A Few Adjustments were made along the way

Baker’s first creation of the Rainbow Flag was flown for the first time on June 25th, 1978 for the San Francisco Gay Freedom Parade. As the number for rainbow flags increased, production became an issue. As a result of productions, the colors pink and turquoise were removed from the flag. They also had to replace the color indigo with blue. Because of these changes, the eight stripe Rainbow Flag turned into a six stripe Rainbow Flag. The Rainbow Flag we see today with six stripes is to reflect both immense diversity and unity, especially among the LGBTQ community. Interesting enough the Rainbow Flag was not truly established as a symbol for the LGBTQ community until 1994.

  • 1969 The Stonewall Riots
  • 1978 The First Rainbow Flag was Flown
  • 1994 The Rainbow Flag became an established symbol for the LGBTQ community
Following the rainbow flag
Not just a brand. A philosophy, a statement and a way of life

Example of See Your Vision: Be Your Vision

Baker said in an interview later on, “our job as gay people was to come out, to be visible, to live in truth, as I say, to get out of the lie.”  To Baker, a flag really fit that mission, because that’s a way of proclaiming your visibility or saying “This is who I am”

The Great Awakening and Ascension

“To walk the spiritual path is to continually step out into the unknown”

Wallace Huey

Here is a mini recap of our Live Sip N Think Chat @sherisdreamcather on Instagram

What is the great awakening and ascension?

In researching the world wide web, Soul awakening is difficult to define since their are various ways to define it. Could it be that it is the perception one is feeling and experiencing? For instance, how do we know we are being awakened? Furthermore, with all of the events of 2020 alone, how could you not believe in the spiritual realm? Have you come to the realization that their is a bigger picture? I mean really, Optimist Prime from the transformers’ has been saying “more than meets the eye” for ages now. At least since I was a kid.

Why have a Soul Awakening Chat on All Hallow’s Eve?

For the purpose of our chat and this blog, I believe that it is easier to travel between worlds or dimensions at this particular time. Or it is the most heightened between the spirit world and the physical world, I should say. I myself am a very spiritual person. However, not everyone around me believes in the same spiritual practices. Some take it as a joke and will throw in their two cents about it. Others understand and are really open to it. Just because someone close to me doesn’t believe in what I believe in, doesn’t mean I don’t like them. It just means that I am on a different path or journey then them. Naturally, I tend to gravitate toward others who I can relate to and talk to about it.

The Great Awakening and Ascension
I decided to be Medusa for Halloween. If you look too close you may turn into a stone

How do you know if you have ascended?

I am still trying to figure that one out. Apparently from my discussion with Melissa, my Angel guides are telling me to “let it go”. But, what are they telling me to let go of? We have determined in our discussion that they are not referring to a person or individual. Well, me personally, I believe they are telling me to let go of a certain situation. Their must be a situation that is holding me down and holding me back? I have a horrible time in letting things go. Really I do!! The weirdest thing is that, I already know what the situation is. We all have a gut instinct and maybe, just maybe we begin letting go by fully trusting in ourselves.

  • What is the name of your company?
  • How did you come up with the name for your company?
  • What kind of services/classes/products do you offer your customers?
  • How can someone join a class, purchase a product or receive your services?
  • What are some of the steps you will take or took to maintain your clientele during the covid shutdown?

Five Basic Tips for Overcoming Startup Challenges Prior to the Covid Shut Down

The great part about asking Sara these questions was that I was very intrigued with how she was able to answer all of them. What I have experienced in my own journey, is that when starting a business, someone will ask me “Well what is Envision Dream, LLC?” or “Why are you doing Sheri’s Dream Catcher?” They seem pretty basic, right! I decided to challenge Sara in our interview and so I did some research on the internet. Below are just 5 of the basic tips I chose to ask Sara in our interview.

  • 1. Do you know your Company’s Culture?
  • 2. Do you understand your Financial Issues?
  • 3. Are you constantly Making Yourself Known?
  • 4. Are you recruiting well?
  • 5. Will you continue to Nourish Customer Loyalty?

what We learned from our discussion on overcoming business challenges

When we are sipping, thinking and chatting about business ideas or our niche, we learned that it might be a good idea to have a plan in place before starting a business. Specifically, A SMART Plan. This simple tool can be used as a stepping stone for your goal setting and turning them into an actionable plan.

S– Specific

M– Measurable

A-Achievable (attainable)

R-Relevant (Realistic)

T-Time-based Goals

Another take away we received from our interview with entrepreneur Sara Loretta, were 3 distinctive advantages for overcoming new business challenges and then the added impact of covid. For instance, in order for Sara to adjust to the ever changing regulations and restrictions due to covid, she really needed to be creative and step out of the box to keep her business alive. Her words of wisdom that she shared are:

  1. Retention
  2. Word of Mouth
  3. Connection

First, with retention, Sara had to live stream for her current clients. Particularly, this meant learning how to teach in front of a camera, film herself and upload videos to the mind body platform. Second, with word of mouth, Sara used social media as a way to spread the news about her business operations. For example, she needed to let her clients know that she was open for outside spin classes. Additionally, this gave her an advantage over her competitors and allowed her to reach new potential clients. Next, with connection, Sara made sure to stay community driven. Especially, since her company’s culture is community focused. Besides, she really wants to do what ever she can to help her local community stay connected and healthy.

Adventures in finding your Niche

Adventures in finding your niche

Life is full of obstacles. It is up to us as individuals to navigate our way thru these obstacles.  Envision, Capture and Roam wild and free on your own personal journey.

What is a Niche?

For this blog, adventures in finding your niche is basically a place or position where an individual stands out. We find our niche by looking at our own self-awareness. In this case, self-awareness can be defined as conscious knowledge of ones own character, feelings, motive and desires. Specifically, your niche should be comprised of three elements. The first essential trait are your skills. For instance, what are you an expert at or in simpler terms what can you do well? The second essential trait are your experiences. Such as, life lessons you have had to learn and grow from. The third essential trait is your knowledge. Especially practical understanding of a particular subject.

Why is our backpack noteworthy?  Well this is not just an ordinary backpack.  This backpack represents the “Stone of Divine Creativity”.  Stand out from the crowd and show others how your own stone is going to shine in the future.  Take note of where you are today.  Your center stone (core/ruby) is where your journey begins. Most people start from a place of feeling trapped as depicted in our “Trapped Ruby” design.

Can someone please tell me what my niche is?

One way to start discovering your niche is to realize what you have for skills, knowledge and experience. I know that sounds easier said than done, but sometimes you can start a conversation with those closest to you to find out what they like and don’t like about you? Whereas, it is hard to tell yourself what you like about yourself. For instance, how many times have you seen or heard someone say “tell me 3 things you like about yourself” and the individual you asked will pause to think for a little bit. Exactly!! Due to that fact, I believe that people don’t know how good they are at something until another person points it out to them. Do you agree?

Are you passionate about your niche?

Another avenue you can take in figuring out what your niche is would be to look into what your passion and interests are. For instance, passions are strong and barely controllable emotions. We naturally gravitate towards how we feel about a person, place or object. Specifically, it arouses our curiosity. On the other hand, if it doesn’t entice us, we won’t want it. It is safe to say that the feelings toward my niche come naturally. I don’t feel as if I have to force myself to do what I enjoy doing.

In conclusion, when chit chatting with other people who are trying to find their way in this world, they always seem to ask me the questions “What is my niche?” and “What am I good at”? Again, a lot of times we don’t realize what we are good at until someone else points it out to us.

Ice Breaker Questions and Answers

I thought it would be fun to do a little get to know me ice breaker questions and answers. I found some questions on the internet regarding vulnerability and thought why not try it. Obviously these questions will not give a complete overview of Sheri. However, they may help as a way to connect especially when you are meeting with someone new. I consider them as a way to break the ice.

Ice Breaker Questions and Answers

Dine and Dash at a Restaurant?

  1. Have you ever Dine and Dashed at a Restaurant? I would have to say, no I have not. I started working in a seafood restaurant when I was 12yrs old. When I was in high school, I would go to work at 6am bussing tables at a breakfast nook and by 3 pm I would walk across the street and work in the seafood restaurant until 11pm. Understanding the hustle and bustle of cooking and feeding people, I did not feel it ever necessary to dine somewhere and then dash without paying for the service.

Marching band or Debate Team?

2. Would you rather have been in the Marching band or the Debate team in school? It is safe to say that I was in the band and on the debate team. I played the flute in 7th & 8th grade as part of the band. I was on the debate team in Jr. High and was on the Mock Trail Team in 9th and 10th grade.

Want to know how you are going to die?

3.If you could find out how you were going to die, would you want to know? I do not want to know, however I already have a feeling that I know how I am going to die. When I was little, I would have this dream that was buried alive in a wooden box. As I got older it became clear to me that I will die of suffocation. I still think about it now with the asthma and just wanting oxygen.

Steal or Shoplifted?

4.What was the last thing you stole or shoplifted. I guess you could say the last thing I stole was someone’s heart. Other than that, I am not into stealing and have never shop lifted. I have a habit of getting caught.

Vacation in Mexico or Alaska?

5. Would you rather vacation in Mexico or Alaska, and Why? I would love to visit Alaska, but I would prefer to vacation in Mexico. Their is something about the style and the feeling I get when it comes to Mexico. For instance, I have only been to Tijuana. When I was 18, I moved out to Arizona. This was 3 days after graduation to live with my dad, step mom and little brother. While I was out there, my homegirl was in California for a convention. Basically, I decided to take a bus to meet her in San Diego.

While we were there, we decided to venture to Tijuana. The first time we went, we went to a bar, got drunk and I rode a mechanical bull. I believe I also danced to AC/DC’s “Shook me all night long” on the dance floor by myself. We did not drink the water, so the only thing we drank was alcohol. The second time we went there (the next day basically), we went with a few friends from the military. From what I remember of the night, we went to a nightclub. I also remember making out with one of the guys we went with and then later he told me he was married. Fun times and good memories.

Like or Dislike Surprises?

6. Do you like or dislike surprises? I like surprises but they make me cry. I would prefer to know about the surprise so I can be prepared for it. I think surprises give me anxiety. That’s probably because I don’t have any control over it.

Ride a bike, a horse or drive a car?

7. Would you rather ride a bike, ride a horse or drive a car? I would prefer to ride a bike. I have ridden a horse. I rode one at the Grand Canyon. My dad took me riding when he brought me to the Canyon for my very first visit. I can’t remember if I rode a horse when I was younger. The woman we lived with at one time in my life, worked at a stable and won a ton of ribbons for horse riding. I can’t remember if she took us riding or not. Her family owned a stable and that part of my life is a little blurred. Obviously I drive a car, but since I am prone to accidents, I prefer to ride a bike.

The tallest building you have been to the top in?

8. What’s the tallest building you have been to the top in? I would have to say the tallest building I have been in is the Empire State Building in New York City. I would visit New York City as a kid with my great aunts who lived there. They took us to the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty and Broadway plays. I did go on a girls trip a few years ago and I wanted to go back up to the top, but we didn’t make it since we were partying too much. My girlfriends did however, take a picture of me in front of the entrance. My girls are funny, they knew I really wanted to go up to the top but we didn’t have time. We made a compromise hence, the picture of me at the bottom entrance.
